...I'm trying...

AND this is why I hesitated starting a blog; I absolutely SUCK at keeping up with it.  Rather than trying to back entry everything I'm just going to give a run down.  Last post was about weaning our 2 year old.  That has been successful!  She still refers to my breasts as "Mommy milk" and still wants to hold mommy milk when really tired and cuddly, whatever, I'm not going to stop her.  So the past 3 months in a nutshell:

Is Our Toddler Self Weaning...?

Up until our 10 week appointment, when we found out we were expecting triplets, our 22 month old daughter was still nursing day and night.  Self weaning and possible tandem nursing is something I thought we would continue with, after all that was our PLAN...but so was having ONE more kid (which we now know God has a different plan)!  I had contemplated cutting night nursing for a while but didn't want to rush anything...that is...until we found our there were three!  Keeping things calm and fairly normal for our toddler was the plan.  With all the other things to come the last thing I want to do is make drastic changes to something we are both very comfortable with. I still wasn't rushing but I knew she was ready for the night weaning.  It took about 3 nights of her waking up asking for milk and each time I would calmly tell her, "no milk until the sun comes up."  She would whine a bit, I would offer to rub her back and than she would fall back asleep.  She would than sleep from 8:30-3:30ish, come into bed (we co-sleep/partial co-sleep, have since birth) and fall back asleep.  This has progressed to her sleeping through until 5:30, most nights. This all happened in about a 2-3 week period.  It was not a big deal and NO crying it out (CIO) was involved.  I'm not sure if it's the night weaning or the pregnancy hormonal changes that has caused her to drop most of her day nursings but I can tell she is on the road to self weaning, :-/.  Yes, it is probably happening sooner than expected because of the pregnancy but it does feel natural and not abrupt or 'cold turkey'.  And if everything happens for a reason than it WAS meant to be.  She still suckles/nurses in the morning for snuggle time, she'll nurse maybe 1 minute here or 2 minutes there throughout the day and for just a couple minutes at bedtime.  Up until 3 weeks ago she would nurse to sleep in my arms, now, she nurses and asks to go into her crib and will fall asleep on her own.  It is a very bittersweet sweet time for me; I was very adamant about exclusively breastfeeding her for various reasons (health benefits, cost, and it IS natural after all).  It does make me sad if I think too hard about it being over but the natural course that is unfolding has helped soothe my uneasiness of her weaning.  I'm a big believer that each child will be ready for different milestones on their own schedule.  She is obviously telling us that she is ready to fall asleep on her own and sleep through the night.  I'm pretty confident we will make it to the 2 year mark which is less than a month away but how long after that will be up to her. . .Maybe she will be done shortly after her birthday or maybe she'll suckle/dry nurse for another month or two, either way I'm taking her lead for the rest of our breastfeeding journey.

Who, What, When, Where, & How Long!?

Well this week we had 2 fairly informative Dr's appointments for the triplet pregnancy. We left our first appointment (the oh sh*t we're having triplets one) with not too many answers or questions; both our OB and ourselves were just in shock.  This week we had an ultrasound along with an NT scan and spoke with a perinatologist.  Babies are growing right on track but not sure if there is 1 or 2 placentas and also found a cyst on my left ovary (11 cm in diameter). *Side note: my right ovary is partially removed from a huge cyst (3 quarts of fluid) I had removed during an emergency surgery when I was 13 and NO we have not done any fertility treatments.  We were hoping for 3 placentas but we are now praying for 2.  If there are 2 placentas than that means 2 babies are sharing (Baby A & Baby B) and that Baby C has its own.  If there is only 1 placenta than all 3 babies are sharing. This tends to have higher risks associated with it but we will deal with it IF we get there.  As for the cyst, we are praying it shrinks over time but worst case scenario I may need surgery while pregnant.  We were a bit confused who our head Dr was? How many placentas (still don't know for sure) there were? Who do we call or where do we go in case of an emergency?  How much weight should I gain? Do I need to double my vitamins? Will I need bed rest? How often will a see a Dr?...and the list goes on.  We learned that our regular OB is our go-to Dr, which we are thankful and ecstatic for.  She was there through our last pregnancy and delivery and knows what our wishes are. The perinatology group will be co-managing with our OB, but our OB & ourselves will make final decisions.

I'm sure I forgot something and my English, typing, grammar, etc isn't the best but I blame it on Mom/Preggo brain, haha. This is me and it is what it is; the last thing I need to stress over is, "who is going to point out my flaws?" I really don't care or have time to worry about that.

First Post

My goal for this blog is to share and remember how life is with a single child and triplets.  My husband and I (You & Me) have been married for 3.5 years.  We have an almost 2 year old daughter (Plus 1) and currently 12.5 weeks pregnant with spontaneous triplets (& 3).  I plan to use this blog to document our, what will turn into, crazy life.  I want to share trials and tribulations that come with raising not only a single child but triplets.  I want us to learn from our mistakes, share ideas that work for us, and look back on this blog with the intent to remember what it was like the first couple of years with 4 kids under 2.5.  I also hope others will be able to find comfort in our daily situations as we try to navigate the "right" way of raising all these young-ins.  There is not much information about triplets on the Internet (who'd a thunk?), so I plan to share any resources, helpful ideas, other blogs & websites I come across in my days of researching.
